Kaliya

Kaliya: A five hooded serpent living in the Yamuna river, Kaliya struck terror in the people of Brindavan. Lord Krishna, who  spent his childhood in Brindavan and saved the people from many asuras, decided to defang this serpent also. 

     One day he jumped on to the hood of the serpent and began dancing. Kaliya tried to coil around Krishna, but Krishna tamed and killed him. This dance is known as Kaliya Nartana. Kaliya was a deva turned into a serpent because of curse. Now by killing him, Krishna released him from the curse.
